I started thinking about this after seeing !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about swapping a 2.0l EcoBoost into a 60's Falcon. Over the years I’ve had all kinds of weird swap ideas, most (but not all) of which are both impossible to carry out and/or make sense to absolutely no one. Things like:
- In high school, I wanted to swap a VR6 into my Chevy Celebrity
- Cummins Challenger or Charger (like the Charger in the above video)
- two words: Rotary Festiva
- a Ranger 4-cylinder and manual transmission into an early 90's Explorer
Like I said, it makes no sense.
What I’d really REALLY love to do, though, is find an old AMC Spirit-based AMX (or, even better, the weird Hornet/Concord-hatchback-based one) and swap out whatever wheezy boat anchor engine it had with a late 90's-early 2000's Jeep inline 6.
So, Dr. Moreau, what hideous monster would you end up creating?

I know it’s not exactly the most original idea but I would love to LS swap a VX220. One of these with over 400HP would be some right good fun.

A Toyota 1VD-FTV into my 4Runner. Twin turbo V-8 diesel in a 4500 lbs SUV sounds like enough.

The 5 cylinder from the RS3 into the S5 to make a new Sport Quattro.
A different swap i each gen of the MR2, but they’ve all been done before,w much is pretty cool. Blacktop in the AW11, V6 in the SW20, and maybe turbo the Spyder.

I want to put a V6 ecoboost in the back seats of a new fiesta and make a modern Shogun.

Cummins all the things. I want more high powered turbo Cummins cars. Like sedans and coupes, not trucks.

Or, the same MGB GT stuffed with that supercharged 2.0 L ford engine that caterham’s putting in their 620R.

Was just talking to a buddy last week, and getting ready to reply to this thread, about an S2000 K20 swap into an MGB Gt. Suspension, drive train, and probably gauge cluster as well, for wiring simplicity sake. They’re within 500 lbs or so of each other, should make a fun car.

Volvo 360 with the 4.4L V8 found in the S80 and XC90, with the Noble modifications. What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder if it’s possible. That would be spectacularly fun for the 5 minutes before I wrap it around a tree.

YES. Why hasn’t anyone done this yet? I mean in a modern Fiesta, anyway. Looks like there’s a bunch of older V6-swapped Fiestas floating around Europe.

I saw that back when the engine bay was lime green. Not exactly my first choice for a Cummins but I’m certainly not complaining either.

Abarth 1.4L turbo 4 into a Veyron

Like my friend’s ‘87 Dodge Dakota with the 2.2 four. You really almost could stand in the engine bay. You had to measure 0-60 times with a calendar.

Mid-engined modern Abarth with an LS. I’ve already done some calculations as far as space goes because I’m insane. If you use a C5 Corvette transaxle, chain drive the engine above it, it will fit pretty well.

I would bring the Mustang back to it’s roots and install a 420hp Barra straight 6 stolen from Ford of Australia. Preferably into a convertible.
And that Jeep I6 swap should be a breeze because it’s a direct evolution of the AMC 258 that those cars came with. The engine mounts and I think bellhousing pattern are identical.

2.3 MZR Turbo (Mazdaspeed 3/6) into Pontiac Fiero.

That’s why it’s so enticing. Same basic engine with (probably) double the power? Yes please.
![]() 06/11/2016 at 17:28 |

I’d actually go for one of the earlier 4.0s, like early 90's. They had nearly the same power as the later ones but with simpler electronics to make the swap easier.
